Yeah, it is like camping in our one small room, but with more ants.  Up at the dawn and the sounds of birds and feel of ants (yeah) and if one person is “off” we all get it.  Poor Aili is sick again (actually, we all are sick w/ I think cold style virus sore throat and congestion — EXCEPT Keira) . . . anyway she is cough/whine/snuffle starting 3am and that is the last wink I see.  It’s ok, embrace, here we go.  Ants love her snotty tissues.  We cuddle and snuggle in her bed and try to deal and finally it is 6am and all are up.  I have a 7am call.  No worries.  Coffee, crew rallying, breakfast included game, internet a joke roll call w/ my local phone and VoiP prefixes make good rates for calling U.S. , all good.  Call is all about Service Projects and work, and the Muskoga foundation founder and Alice Shapiro who is the better half of one my favorite families I’ve never met all live (I am now writing in touron-eglish) . . .all good.  More on that — Alice and Muskoga Foundation — in the next service project post/update.  Net: Alice and Jay and their family are rad and what an inspiration for us on all fronts.

So I am now in the zone of “see food and eat and/or save” we are remote — but stomach crazy in the am and about to go surfing and I order the eggs and fruit and save them and all think I’m insane.  Yes, they will keep well.  Armies of ants will not attack them in our room.  Right.

I paddle out from Selambung/Coconut Bay to Playgrounds and have a fun session.  Lot of morning wind up unfortunately + currents mean it is basically a constant paddle to be in position.  I get lazy a few times and feel like I’ve drifted halfway back to Bali just because I am not paddling to be in position.  Have fun chat w/ a lady who has no idea what time it is. Maybe one part blessing and one part curse I am always within 15 min of knowing, even in the middle of night.  I sigh and say hey no watch but it’s 9:45.  She laughs and asks another in the lineup.  The woman can’t get her watch to work or something and messes with is for a minute . . . 9:47.  A look and a shrug all good Megan loves this already :)  Is my margin of error on this test a legit proxy for chilling?  I don’t think so anymore, I just have a clock.

So, fun session, Lacerations I can see the break from where I’m at on Playgrounds but uh, everything I’ve read is like “its not called lacerations for nothing!!!!” and I think a few good rides at playgrounds and 2 hours of constant paddling is good oi.  At least I see more of the views of the Island as we have to move and I need to find another place.  All good, but kind of tripping on how concentrated the western tourist thing is on Lembongan.  Like it is all tourism now unf, and unlike even the most “touristy” places in Bali there just aren’t enough “native not tourist serving” Balinese to make more authentic Indo live available.

Chilling at the LCV for a couple hours then we head for cove hopping and mushroom bay and need to find a place to stay again! Peeps are not used to being jammed together but our place is still this:

On the way to looking for a new place I am thinking if I hear any heat we will stay in this:

Megan and the kids source a beachfront lunch game and I talk to 10 places and figure out how to get to actual Mushroom Bay and we figure it out, finally.  It’s a hybrid beach / cove discovery walk / lunch mission / lodging mission / swim session.  I am so proud of the crew.  We nail things down for lodging at the end of the road/beach, for real.  We walk and swim back.  It is 4:30 when we finally are back at our place.  We recover, but we roll out at 5:45 for dinner walking the other way towards town and seeking a legit warung as all I hear is “there is no this or not that or not whatever — the crew just wants authentic indo warung not western/jap/chin type stuff for tourons like us — so funny we are in a touron zone looking for local and we talk and walk forever and finally end up at Agung Warung and it works we love it but we are 45 min walk from our place in dark, etc.

I thought this might happen so prepped we take motorbikes home one adult one kid on each taxi style, etc.  We find some cats, then the real adventure begins.  Just give your daughter some bintang and lead the fam down this inviting alley for transport home . . .

I am on a motorbike Aili in front of driver and me in back and Megan same thing w/ Keira on a diff motorbike.  Aili puts her hands on the bars I love it.  We start out all good scooting back through village to LCV — but then things break down and they take us to coconuts and we almost get off and say thanks we’ll do the 20 min (w/ kids) walk bird in hand.  But I am like come on, no, take us home.  It is 8:30ish or whatever.  Some of the paths are like legit single track that lines must be chosen . . . 3 person mt bike w/ motor game going on.  Riot.  So we get back  to main road and my guy runs out of gas.  Me / Aili start walking.  The crew regroups and the guy goes for gas.  Comes back 5 min later w/ gas in a few plastic water bottles.  We roll, again, but gas and fluid are spraying all over my leg oi . . . sure enough his bike dies and Aili and i are again just walking on a jungle path.  And then Megan’s crew comes back they’ve been lost.  The scale of junkshow is insane.  So, we all huddle at my insistence, we get 2 bikes working after a while, then we roll.  Somehow Megan’s guy gets dropped, his bike works but my guy knows the way.  I decide I need to “get there” (I’ve never been there via this route from roads, only from beach literally walked from boat”.  So we get there, I get some of the LCV crew down, connect w/ the guy, I tell him to go get his buddy and my wife other daughter!  We debate for a while, he has a phone and is texting his buddy.  I am pushing down bad thoughts.  Aili and are snuggling.  I grab the senior guy and we rap it out a little and he thinks my plan is right . . . these guys need to get paid they will get my crew here . . . so 5 min later Megan and Keira show up it all works.  Dudes try to rip me for more cash and that is not happening I think paying them full boat for the adventure is a win both ways I don’t pound ’em.  It is 9:40 again!  We rack.  Uh, until 4am.  Aili can’t sleep her virus off, she is 4, so it goes.  4am and 4 years old.  We continue that one tomorrow!
